Free Makerspace Library of Hands-On ProjectsTinkRWorks’ TinkRpedia has everything educators need to get started with STEM/STEAM Project-based Learning. Teachers can browse the educator-curated Makerspace Lesson Library—featuring free, hands-on projects that cover a variety of subjects and difficulty levels. All of the projects require access to a 3D printer and utilize recycled materials. Projects are offered at three levels:

Free Winter Holiday Paper Circuit Templates for Winter HolidaysPaper circuits are a fun way to teach circuits and conductivity. Students use the easy-to-follow diagrams to create their own card that will light up! The download includes a card template with information for each holiday that covers: Materials needed: paper, copper tape, LED lights, coin batteries, and clear tape. Students can also use markers or crayons to decorate the card. Included are instructions for using paper circuits as a classroom project or part of a STEM Family Night.

Young Inventors’ Program (YIP) at the University of New Hampshire, Leitzel Center, teachers can set their students on a course to shape an innovative future. The program’s free resources help teachers guide students through the invention process to solve problems while applying STEM learning and gaining 21st century skills. YIP materials are adaptable to all learning environments—in school, out of school, at home. They have been designed to be easy to implement, flexible enough to meet diverse student needs, applicable to a broad range of disciplines—and most important, accessible to anyone.

Hacking STEM. The idea behind Hacking STEM is to make low-cost or no-cost hands-on STEM projects accessible to as many people as possible. You can follow Microsoft's directions as written or modify the projects to use other materials to build the projects. In the following video I explain how I modified one of the Hacking STEM projects. So you might say that I hacked a Hacking STEM project.

Science Snacks from Exploratorium has been a recommendation of mine for a few years now. Science Snacks are activities that can be conducted with inexpensive and readily available materials. Each Science Snack comes with a materials list and step-by-step directions. Science Snacks are also accompanied by a written explanation of the science at work in the activity. Many Science Snacks, like Penny Battery, include video demonstrations and explanations.
Lessons on Design Thinking The Tech of Innovation helps teachers lead their students through science and engineering challenges. They also make engaging and effective team-building activities for groups of teachers. The site includes single-session lessons of less than an hour, such as “Balloon Astronaut” (grades 2–8) and “Circle of Pong” (grades 3–12); single-session lessons of one to two hours, such as “Fire Brigade” (grades 3–6) and “Pump It Up” (grades 4–6), as well as multisession lessons, such as “Bobsled Blitz” (grades 3–12) and “Farming in Ancient Mesopotamia” (grades 6–8).
